Shift Guidelines

The Stateview instructional shift session outlines the steps necessary for setting up, conducting, and concluding a shift at our Correctional Facility. By following these detailed instructions, our staff will maintain high standards of operation and ensure a smooth and effective shift, aligning with our facility’s protocols and expectations.

SESSION STARTUP INSTRUCTIONS

Before initiating any shift, the following procedures must be completed in full. Proper preparation is critical for a successful session, organized structure, and recognized hosting credit.

  • You must have a minimum of five (5) attendees to commence the shift.

  • Selecting hardest workers is optional, not mandatory. If you choose to appoint them, you may select up to four (4) per session only.

  • A co-host is optional, but if selected, they must hold the rank of Superintendent or higher. You may only have one (1) co-host at maximum.

  • Sessions that fail to meet requirements or collapse will not count toward quota. Prepare thoroughly, and review session guidelines prior to hosting.

  • Claim a hosting spot through Bloxcord and follow the provided instructions. Further information on how to use the Bloxcord session interface may be found here .

SESSION MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS

The following requirements outline the standards all hosts must follow when managing active sessions. Adhering to these ensures consistency, fairness, and smooth operational flow throughout the shift.

  • Management Professionalism:

    • Session administrators must remain professional at all times. The way you conduct yourself sets the tone for the rest of the session
  • Management Grammar:

    • Must use proper grammar at ALL times. Clear and correct communication is essential.
  • Management Respect:

    • Management members must respect ALL attendees. A respectful environment fosters better participation and engagement.
  • Management Rule Enforcement:

    • Remove any rule breakers from the shift promptly to maintain order and focus.
  • Chairperson Supervision:

    • Members ranked Chairperson must have a supervisor present. Supervisors are required to ensure the shift meets organizational standards.
  • Supervision Requirements:

    • Facility Director(s) may supervise Chairperson’s but must have a Community Advisory Council+ to log possible promotions. However, if a Facility Director has Evaluated High Rank permissions, they may supervise without a Community Advisory Council.

SHIFT PREPARATION TIPS

Before initiating any shift, hosts should review the following preparation points to maintain control, ensure productivity, and deliver a well-structured experience for all participants.

REVIEW SHIFT PROTOCOLS:

  • Before starting the shift, thoroughly review all shift protocols and procedures. Being well-versed in these will help you manage the shift effectively and handle any issues that arise.

PREPARE FOR COMMON SCENARIOS:

  • Anticipate common scenarios or problems that might occur during the shift and be ready with solutions. This will help ensure the shift runs smoothly.

SET CLEAR EXPECTATIONS:

  • Clearly outline the goals and expectations for the shift at the beginning. This helps attendees understand their roles and responsibilities throughout the shift.

ENGAGE YOUR ATTENDEES:

  • Encourage active participation from all attendees. Use directives and prompts to keep everyone engaged and ensure they understand their roles.

COLLECT FEEDBACK:

  • Gather feedback from attendees at the end of the shift. This can provide valuable insights into what went well and what could be improved for future shifts.

SESSION INTRODUCTION

This section is designed to set the tone for the shift by introducing the hosts and outlining key rules and expectations. It ensures all participants understand the importance of respect, proper conduct, and active participation. Following these guidelines will help create a smooth and productive shift environment.

STAND SHOULDER TO SHOULDER ON THE HOST/CO-HOST INSTRUCTIONAL LINE

Host: Hello. Welcome to today’s shift! My name is [Name], and I’ll be your host.

Co-Host: Hey! I’m [Name], your co-host, and I’ll be assisting in today’s shift.

THE HOST/CO-HOST MAY SELECT THEIR OWN GREETING/INTRODUCTION. HOWEVER, IT MUST BE APPROPRIATE

Host: Before we begin, let’s go over a few rules to help you succeed in this shift!

Host:

I - Do not say PTS (Permission To Speak) while I am speaking.

II - Follow all orders given to you by a SI+ unless they ask you to break the rules.

III - If there is any problem, come to me, my Co-Host, or any other SI+ for assistance.

IV - Do not ask for promotions/ranks.

V - Use proper grammar at all times.


SESSION DETAILS

To ensure a smooth and effective shift, hosts and co-hosts should adhere to the following policies:

  • Active Communication: Hosts and co-hosts must consistently monitor attendees and maintain communication via radio throughout the patrol portion of the shift.

  • Captain Selection: Only one captain is permitted per shift. A Warden or higher may be designated as Captain.

  • Role Assignment: The host assigns roles individually to all attendees and provides explanations once roles are assigned. Ensure every participant fully understands their responsibilities before starting.

  • Role Confirmation: Verify that each attendee comprehends their assigned role and duties. Once confirmed, attendees may begin their tasks.

  • Shift Duration: Shifts are expected to last 25–35 minutes, with a maximum of 40 minutes. Shifts exceeding this time are not permitted.

RECOMMENDED SHIFT TIME DURATION AND DRILL DURATION:

  • To keep the session running smoothly and on schedule, adhere to the following time recommendations for each drill:
  • Patrolling: 5-7 minutes.
  • Blackout Drill: 4-6 minutes.
  • Lockdown Drill: 4-6 minutes.
  • Evacuation Drill: 5-7 minutes.
  • Call Back: 3-5 minutes.

SHIFT ROLES

The host or co-host will assign roles to all attendees. Each participant is expected to patrol the prison according to their assigned responsibilities.

Host: Before we start, my co-host will assign your roles. Please pay close attention, as your role will dictate your duties for the duration of this shift.

ONCE ROLES ARE ASSIGNED, PROCEED TO EXPLAIN EACH ROLE’S DESCRIPTION

Host: Now that everyone has their roles, let’s review what each role entails:

  • Patrol Team: Responsible for patrolling the prison and monitoring its status. They ensure that all areas are secure and operational.

  • Scout Team: Patrols outside the prison and monitors the premises from watch towers, providing an external security layer.

  • Response Team: Handles situations around the set status, responds to any panic calls, and oversees checkpoints and the control room.

  • Camera Operator: Manages the cameras, providing real-time updates and reporting on prison activities via radio.

  • Captain: Leads a group, maintains control within their team, and ensures order and discipline are upheld.


SHIFT DISMISSAL

This section provides instructions for sending attendees to their assigned posts at the start of a shift. Hosts and co-hosts ensure that each participant knows their responsibilities, reports to the correct location, and is ready to perform their duties effectively.

Host: At a random point during the shift, a drill will be conducted. It is crucial that you follow the procedures specific to the drill being carried out.

Host: Please pay close attention as I explain the procedures for each drill:

  • Lockdown Drill: When a Lockdown Drill is initiated, all attendees must escort inmates back to their cells. Ensure that all individuals remain within the cell-block for the duration of the drill.

  • Blackout Drill: When a Blackout Drill is initiated, all facility power will be shut off. Guards and inmates must remain inside the cell-block for the entire duration of the drill. Do not attempt to restore power until the procedure has officially concluded.

  • Evacuation Drill: When the Evacuation Drill starts, all attendees and inmates must proceed to the Maximum Security Yard and stand there. You must evacuate as soon as the alarm commences. Do not transfer inmates.

Host: Before I dismiss you, here are a few expectations that we expect throughout the shift.

I - Communication: Use radio channel two to communicate.

II - Radio Format: When communicating on the radio, follow this format: [Role] (Text). For example: [Patrol] Cell Block is clear!

III - Door Management: Please remember NOT to leave doors open and NOT to use lethal force unnecessarily.

IV - Adherence: Maintain clear communication and follow the instructions of the host and co-host at all times.


LOCKDOWN DRILL - OPTIONAL

The Lockdown Drill is an optional exercise designed to practice responding to a security alert within the facility. During this drill, all inmates must be returned to their cells, and staff must maintain control of the cell-block. Clear communication, attention to procedure, and effective coordination between hosts, co-hosts, and attendees are essential to ensure the drill runs smoothly and safely.

Host/Co-Host:h We are initiating a Lockdown. All inmates must be escorted back to their cells immediately. During this lockdown, cuff abuse will not be noted. Do not enter the control-room.

ENFORCE CONTROL PANEL ABUSE PENALTIES FOR ANY VIOLATIONS OF THIS RULE

AS ATTENDEES EXECUTE THE LOCKDOWN DRILL, OBSERVE AND NOTE THOSE WITH ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT, GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS, AND EFFECTIVE INMATE MANAGEMENT

ANNOUNCE THAT ONLY THE HOST AND CO-HOST ARE AUTHORIZED TO CHANGE THE STATUS OR INITIATE/TERMINATE THE LOCKDOWN. ADDITIONAL ATTENDEES MAY JOIN THE SESSION MIDWAY THROUGH THE SHIFT:

Host/Co-Host:h Please do not alter the Status or tamper with the Lockdown settings during the session. Unauthorized changes will result in a punishment.

UPON CONCLUSION OF THE DRILL, ANNOUNCE THE CONCLUSION:

Host/Co-Host:h The situation has been resolved. Facility operations have been resumed.


BLACKOUT DRILL - OPTIONAL

The Blackout Drill is an optional exercise used to practice handling a facility-wide power outage. During this drill, radios will not work, so guards and staff must follow the procedure carefully. The host and co-host supervise the drill and watch how everyone performs.

  • When conducting a Blackout Drill, ensure all participants fully understand the procedure before starting. Note that radio communication will be unavailable during this drill. During this drill, the host/co-host will be responsible for shutting down the facility’s power. Wait an additional two minutes before restoring the power.

  • Note: It is advisable for the co-host(s) to remain near the power box to prevent any tampering during the drill.

Host/Co-Host:We are experiencing an active Blackout. All inmates must be escorted to the cell-block immediately. Guards and staff are to stay within the cell-block as well. No personnel should be in the hallways during this blackout.

UPON CONCLUSION OF THE DRILL, ANNOUNCE THE CONCLUSION:

Host/Co-Host:h The situation has been resolved. Facility operations have been resumed.


EVACUATION DRILL - OPTIONAL

The Evacuation Drill is an optional exercise designed to practice moving all staff and inmates to a designated checkpoint. Clear communication and coordination among session managers and staff are essential to ensure a smooth and orderly evacuation. All session managers must actively supervise and execute the drill properly.

BEFORE INITIATING THE EVACUATION DRILL, ENSURE THERE ARE AT LEAST 6 ATTENDEES AND 4 INMATES PRESENT. IF NUMBERS ARE INSUFFICIENT, OBTAIN APPROVAL FROM THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS+ OR OVERSEER COMMAND MEMBERS


EVACUATION EXIT

Maximum Security Yard Checkpoint:

ALL STAFF AND INMATES SHOULD PROCEED TO THE MAXIMUM SECURITY YARD CHECKPOINT AND REMAIN THERE UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF SESSION MANAGERS

  • The evacuation procedure must be announced three separate times to ensure all attendees are informed. Session managers may use the countdown command when appropriate. A 200-second timer serves as the official timeframe for full facility evacuation.

Host:An evacuation is now in effect. Proceed to the Maximum Security Yard. All personnel must be at the checkpoint to comply with roleplay. Evacuate promptly and leave all prison doors open. Do not raid.

UPON CONCLUSION OF THE DRILL, ANNOUNCE THE CONCLUSION:

Host/Co-Host:h The situation has been resolved. Facility operations have been resumed.


CONCLUDING THE SESSION

  1. Call Back Attendees: Start the “call back” phase on Bloxcord once the first call is made. Mark each attendee as they return to the session room. End this phase once all attendees are back and the session room is locked.

MAKE TWO CALL BACK ANNOUNCEMENTS TO THE ATTENDEES:

Host:h Can everyone from the shift please report back to the session room.

  1. Mark Attendance: Tick “passed” on Bloxcord for attendees who have successfully completed the phases of the shift.

  2. Promote: Confirm the passers and proceed to the “ranking” section to promote those who are off cooldown. To promote passers, they will need background stats.

  3. Grade Each Other: The session administration should then move to the “grading” section and grade each other’s performance.

  4. Logging: Use the correct format for logging channels located in our administration server.

ONCE ALL ATTENDEES ARE BACK, SET THEM TO STS AGAIN AND TAKE THE NECESSARY PROOF OR SCREENSHOT FOR THE SHIFT LOG

Host: Welcome back, everyone! Before we announce the hardest workers, we’ll take a group photo. Please remain in STS formation during this time.

Host: Now, let’s recognize the hardest workers. Everyone did a great job today, but these attendees stood out for their exceptional performance:
